The third public beta of tvOS 18 was made available by Apple today, allowing users to test out the new features before the software launches in the autumn. A week has passed since the release of the second beta.

The tvOS 18 beta can be downloaded by public beta testers by launching the Apple TV Settings app, selecting the Software Updates section under System, and then flipping on the Get Public Beta Updates option. To get the option to appear, one must register on Apple's website for the public beta program.

While tvOS 18 doesn't have as many features as some of Apple's previous releases, it does include a new InSight function to the Apple TV app. Comparable to Amazon X-Ray, InSight offers up-to-date details on performers, soundtracks, and other elements of Apple TV+ productions.

The Enhanced Dialogue function works with built-in TV speakers, AirPods, and other Bluetooth devices, and it employs computational audio and machine learning to improve spoken clarity over background noise and music. It has been adjusted so that subtitles will appear automatically when appropriate, like when the TV is muted.

In addition to introducing new screen savers and streamlining the process of switching between them, Apple has also enabled Live Captions for FaceTime calls and supported projectors with a 21:9 aspect ratio.
